The Village Inn: You Have To Sneak In When It’s Not Mobbed
This restaurant is the only sit down restaurant in a several mile radius in far east Tucson. Everything else is a pizza joint or a fast food restaurant. So it’s literally mobbed from breakfast through dinner, especially on Wednesdays which is free pie day. The only let up is late in the afternoon when you might be very early for dinner say around 4 or 5ish. That’s when we slipped into the restaurant for our most recent visit for dinner on January 21. We hadn’t visited in almost a year. Nothing much had changed. The pies were still on display in the glass cases at the cash register. The staff remembered that we liked to have a table instead of a booth. We ordered the usual —- chef’s salads with double blue cheese and a cup of tomato basil soup with iced tea to drink. Believe it or not, it’s the best thing on the menu if you don’t want to eat breakfast for dinner. We don’t recommend the steak. It’s small and burnt around the edges. They have wi-fi. You have enough room to put your laptop on the table and check your email while you eat. Time to go. I’m there right now as I’m penning the review. We have to take out the cheeseburger with fries for the Labrador Retriever back in the car.
