Iconic New Mexico:
Coming from Tucson we stopped at the High Yucca Plains Rest Area to take photos. Next we stopped in Deming for lunch at IHOP where we ate last year. We ordered chicken parmesan and took out fried chicken for the puppy. They are reliable specials of the restaurant that we remembered from our last visit during the summer of 2014. After lunch we stopped at Akela Flats for a photo op on the boardwalk. These are all iconic New Mexico places to stop. You simply can't miss them if you want to sample the flavor of the state.
Quick And Hot at Papa John's In Las Cruces:
We ordered a large veggie pizza with mushrooms and wings on the side. They brought us plenty of Coke to drink. Everything was on time and just as we ordered it. It's a nice service when you are in a hurry and don't have time to go out to eat. In this case we were getting our Nissan quest minivan fixed so we could continue our journey to Brooklyn early the next day.
This Denny’s Got A Passing Grade
We remembered staying in Big Springs, Texas in the 90's. Our motel had roaches. Three years ago we had lunch at a Dairy Queen. It was the worst lunch of the trip. So we approached eating at Denny's with trepidation. We didn't order anything ambitious and decided to have breakfast for lunch as you can see in the picture. One of us even had a sandwich. At the time we were the only people in the restaurant so we didn't have any problem getting our food served in a timely fashion. We got through lunch without much of a problem. It was standard Denny's fare. But the surroundings of the restaurant showed you that you were not in the best section of town.
