One year ago today we had dinner at a working farm on the outskirts of Hamburg. We drove out into the country until the road became very narrow indeed and in fact dead ended at the farm with the water mill plashing away. We were seated inside with a view of the pond of water created by the water mill. German guests were wading out into it. Others were lounging about drinking beer and playing with their dogs. It seemed like a place that hardly one American tourist before us had visited even though the place has been here since the nineteenth century. But they certainly knew how to cook! We ordered steak with an orange sauce and asparagus wrapped up in bacon slices with a garnish of lettuce. Very tasty.
