We took advantage of the First Mile Bistro in the Hamburg Cruise Terminal and sat down at a vacant table with lots of empty chairs on June 12, one year ago today. We ordered English breakfast tea, coffee, and blueberry muffins for a second more substantial breakfast we didn’t get this morning on the ship. We then bought a few Hamburg postcards from a stand nearby, also inside the cruise terminal. Neither the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal nor the Ocean Terminal in Southampton seems to serve food or drinks of any kind. So it was much appreciated when we found a place in Hamburg, our destination for the trip, that did so. It was while eating that blueberry muffin that I began to take notes on the trip that was to lead to the thriller novels Inn at the Crossroads and the Cherusci Plot, soon to be published by Cheops Books.
