Dinner at the Chateau du Lac:
We ordered room service dinner a the Chateau du Lac in Genval, Belgium one year ago today on our way to Waterloo to research Inn at the Crossroads, my novel about the battle 200 years ago. Our son ordered the Italian sandwich with pomfrit and soup. My husband and I ordered two ribeye steaks done medium that come with salads and pomfrit. So as not to get lost wandering down the long, winding hallway back to the lobby that led to the small restaurant where we had tea during the afternoon, we ordered room service for the first and only time on the trip outside the Queen Mary 2 itself. It would have been nice to sit by the windows with a few of the fountain in the middle of the small lake that shot up jets of water like Yellowstone. But it was hard to communicate with the wait staff. They all spoke French and nothing but. And it doesn’t mix with English very well.
