We woke up at 8:00AM a year ago today in Remagen, Germany. We went down to breakfast at the Hotel Oberwinter where we were staying along the Rhine. We were expecting more based on our experience with the asparagus dinner last night. It was disappointing but still better than the Holiday Inn Express. At least they had a hot breakfast. The scrambled eggs were good and hot. But it was odd to slice chocolate cake for breakfast! I didn’t like the few rolls they’d put out. The breakfast bar attendant had to be told to refill the orange juice, which is not a German drink. They don’t even refrigerate it. They like it at room temperature which we found odd and peculiar. We had to work at filling the tea cups with hot water. It seemed to be gone and out of stock. We were practically the only ones in the breakfast room. The convention people who inhabit this hotel had obviously already eaten and left. We still looked forward to dinner that night.
